How to browse safely

Browsing safely

If someone checks your phone or computer, a visit to this site can be found. Here is how to make that less likely.

Leave this site quickly

Every page has a Leave this site button. Select it, or press the Esc key, and this page is replaced with a weather forecast straight away.

Leaving this way does not erase your history. Pressing the back button can bring you back here, and the visit still appears in your browser's history.

Use a private window

A private or incognito window does not keep history once it is closed. Open one before you visit:

  • Chrome and Edge: press Ctrl+Shift+N, or Command+Shift+N on a Mac.
  • Firefox: press Ctrl+Shift+P, or Command+Shift+P on a Mac.
  • Safari on iPhone: tap the tabs button, then Private.

Clear your history

If you did not use a private window, remove this site from your history afterwards. Removing only the pages you visited draws less attention than clearing everything.

Think about the device

Some phones and computers have monitoring apps installed without their owner knowing. If you think yours might, a computer at a library, a friend's phone or a work device you trust is safer.
